What?
A weekly discussion group:
- 90 minutes long (ish)
- Starts with a guided meditation
- Practice check-in
- Break-out room based on some topic
Usually we will have a reflection or practice assignment of some kind for the week.
Who?
You, me, and anyone else who thinks this is a good idea. We need to have a certain number of people to justify starting a new group.
My guess is that my groups are good for people who feel that there is something deeply compelling about meditation, or maybe specifically about Buddhist meditation, but are turned off by most teachers. Hey, me too!
One requirement is that you have to be able to put up with me. I don’t like to share that much in the groups, but I facilitate and do the guided meditations. I prefer to meet with potential members in person first. If you meet with me and you think I’m just the worst, you might not want to join.
When?
Whenever works for everyone. Or else there’s no group, which happens sometimes. Right now a lot of groups aren’t happening. In fact, I don’t even have a way to count how many groups aren’t happening right now.
When there is enough interest for a given time zone, we’ll try and find a meeting time that works for everyone.
Where?
On the internet. Inside a Zoom.
For How Long?
Until you don’t feel like coming. These groups are indefinite duration practice support groups. They only work because everyone wants to come. If you don’t want to come, you quit. It’s the best!
Why?
Because for whatever reason, you and I like meditation, and think that it’s worth pursuing, and know that it’s boring to pursue it alone.
How?
Mediated by the exchange of cold, hard, cash. Ha ha.
The groups are donation based, but I ask everyone to commit to a monthly contribution. If you can only afford $1 a month, that’s all good. Or, if you think that my facilitation truly merits only $0.25 a session, well, ouch!
I know that people like to have a baseline for this kind of thing, which drives me crazy, but I guess I’ll say that people give on average $80 a month. But that number could be way, way higher!
What again?
We already went over this!
I can add that usually the texts we read are from Thich Nhat Hanh, because he was my meditation teacher, and I’m lazy. But sometimes, I’m not lazy, and you will have to read stuff written by me. That’s the worst, but at least I warned you.
Huh? Wha?
